#015: Pioneering Language and Localization Through Klingon and Inuktitut with Soren Eberhardt
In this episode of The Native Experience, we welcome Sören Eberhardt. Sören is a Global Site Manager at Microsoft, who has over 25 years of experience in the field of internationalization and localization.
His extensive experience spans multiple roles and aspects, from being a translator, localization engineer, and program manager, to teaching localization classes at various universities.
In our conversation, we talk about the importance of understanding the intricacies of language, grammar and accents. We also discuss Sören’s love for travel and experiencing new cultures, and how that intersects with his career.
Sören shares intriguing insights about Microsoft's localization journey of over the years, including the creation of a Klingon version for Microsoft Translator and his work localizing Windows for the Inuktitut language of Northern Canada.
Sören emphasizes the importance of cultural sensitivity in the localization process and advises companies to be proactive and spread knowledge to prevent potential issues. He has a tangible passion for language that is awe inspiring.

ABOUT OUR GUEST:
Sören Eberhardt is a global site manager working on localization and marketization of Microsoft’s Office 365 direct sales pages.
He has worked in the field of internationalization and localization for the last 20 years, both on the vendor side and client side. He's held roles as translator, localization engineer and project and program manager over the years.
While at Microsoft, Eberhardt has worked on the localization of Windows and Office, as well as Skype products. In addition, he has taught localization classes at the University of Washington and classes on computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools at New York University.
He has published several e-books on languages. The Inuktitut language has the fewest speakers for whom Eberhardt has ever localized a product.
